Sometimes the stars just simply align. After a tumultuous January filled with warm temperatures, lack of snowfall and myriad life obligations it's safe to say that the ET crew was in dire need of a trip to the forest. We'd kept our eyes on the forecast and were hopeful for at least a little new snow as we packed our bags for Bellingham and Mt. Weird. The trip started with calm winds and broken clouds. Since our first planting party at the Cedar River we spent the summer removing invasive species (mostly blackberry) from around the young treez. We carried homer buckets full of river water back into the forest to keep them watered. Out of the 57 we planted it's safe to say at least 50 will survive and thrive! Thinking about climbing them in 20 years gives me goosebumps. The riparian forest in Renton holds a special place in our hearts and restoring that river will help protect several keynote species including salmon in the years to come. The Olympic Peninsula of Washington State is a mythical place of intrigue and solitude. Our journey to the forest started with a relaxing ferry ride from Edmonds to Kingston. Munching a bacon egg and cheddar bagel is a damn good way to start any trip. With the help of close friends and family we planted our first 57 EvergreenTreez this weeknd. The saplings are a mix of Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) and Western Red Cedar (Thuja Plicata). The three species are native to the Pacific Northwest; they'll grow and thrive in a healthy riparian forest along the banks of the Cedar River in Renton, Washington.
